What is Clinical Coding?
Clinical Coding is the translation of clinical information as described by the clinician into statistical code for use in data analysis. Good quality coded data is necessary for reliable statistical analysis.
In the UK the two primary classifications in use for collecting this information are ICD-10 (the International Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems Version 10) and OPCS-4 (The Office of Population Census and Surveys Classification of Surgical Operations and Procedures Version 4).
